I am not one of those who go all out on Duty Free. When I travel, I prefer to buy when in destination and purchase unique products that I cannot find in Canada, or in my little town.
But this time I decided that I would treat myself to a "me" gift. I was flying with Air Transat and check their catalogue online. I did check the stores a CDG, but nothing was really exciting, as I bought a lot of French products in my three months in Paris already.
I had my eyes on the Aurora palette by Lise Watier. I always think this brand comes with the nicest packaging! I paid $39, instead and of $43 + taxes. Not too bad. I like that it has a few bold colours, to be honest I think nudes are just taking too much space! Bring back boldies!
Then I was also drawn to the NYX "it" List in "the pinks". They didn't offer other colours, but pinks are fine for me! NYX is a brand I cannot get easily in my remote town, I don't have any Target or Brunet nearby, so I took advantage and stock up. The set contains 5 pink based lipglosses: Butter GLoss in Éclair, Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige, Lip Plumper in Pamela, Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul and Xtreme Shine Lip Cream in Nude Peach Fuzz. The set cost around $20.
Let me know if you want a particular product reviewed!
Do you buy duty free when travelling? If so, what do you usually purchase?
I haven't done a favourite post in yonks! Even though I did wanted to make posts, I didn't have enough favourites to grant a post for the month.
This month is different, and it might be because I have shopped in Quebec City and got lots of new products!
First, I loved the Maybelline Color Elixir. Pictured here is Blush Essence, but I also love Hibiscus Haven but right now I cannot find it! Those are just buttery and have nice color payoff. The smell is also good, better than their L'Oréal counterpart.
I have also liked the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa. I love brights and it's hard to make it brighter than this! It doesn't translate as bright on the picture, but it's a blue-toned fuschia, perfect with a high bun!
You've seen the Body Shop Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil in my last Current Skincare Routine but I still wanted to include it here because I love it so much! I hate taking off my makeup, I guess it doesn't help when I try to finish crappy product. But this makes me almost love it! (Psst: Get 40% off when you buy 4 products or more ussing my affiliate link and promo code SKIN. Ends June 3rd.)
I had a bad breakout at the beginning of the month as I was dealing with stress, the time of the month and also leftovers from the month before. I bought a Uriage kit for combination/oily skin as I've heard good things of the brand before. I haven't tried all the products in the kit yet but I love the Uriage Hyésac Bi-Stick. On one hand it has a drying liquid that you put on your spots. The other one is a concealer. I'm not a big fan of the concealer, as the colour is not really matching my tone right now but I love the drying liquid. I put this in the morning and in the evening when I take off the makeup I could see that the spots where less angry.
I didn't really use the concealer part because I also prefer my 2True 3 in 1 Concealer. 2True is a brand I purchased while in the UK and I can tell it is similar to the famous Collection one, only slightly cheaper. It is now finished but if I could purchase it here I would. For reference my shade is 3.
As a non-beauty favourite, I enjoyed reading and (watching the pictures) of the Canada's Style at Home. I love decorating and I read blogs about the subject but I feel that decor magazines are not catering to me to style. They usually have those big house decorated by stylists and they don't feel lived-in. This is not the cas with the ones featured in this magazine. They actually present lots of Canadian home décor bloggers and they have colorful style, which I adore!
What have been your favourites in May?
You may know that I livein a village far far away from city centres. Lots of the majors stores are not readily available. Many beauty brands are not present where I live. Of course. you can always shop online but I like to see the product before buying and living in Canada means we, most of the times, need to pay extrotionate shipping fees and/or duty fee.
So when I go "in town" I usually let myself loose! Last Friday I went to Rimouski, which is a 4 hour drive away to go. Another 4 to come back. It is still not really what I call "in town", but they have a Target and a Winners, so that's a happy MsBubu!
We first did the mandatory stop to Wal-Mart. M y local Wal-Mart (a mere 2 hours drive) isn't the best stock, and they do not carry Wet N Wild, that I wanted to try for a while. Back in the teenage years I have tried Wet N Wild (I was living elsewhere) and was not really impressed but since the last two years the brand pops up a lot on beauty bloggers favourite post, with their Coloricon eye shadow trio. I popped 2 in my basket, Silent Treatment and Sweet as Candy. I've also been longing to try their Megalast nail polish, specifically in 2% Milk as it is a favourite of Alexfashionbeauty and since we have similar complexin, eye colour and hair colour, I thought it would suit me well. (Oh yeah, it might have to do with the fact I have a girl crush on her). I also grabbed Sugar Coat and Wet Cement.
Bonne Bell is a brand that my W-M carries, but only lip balms. I remember it fondly from my teens. I pick up the Paradise Nail Lacquer. A thing I just noticed is that they have a peel-off tag you have to get rid of in order to open the bottle. It's the only place where the colour is written. So that means when I open the bottle I won't have the name anymore, unless I stick it underneath it and DYI something. Not good Bonne Bell!
It was my second incursion into Target. Yes I know, Looser! It was the last stop we made and we were kinda in a hurry (not me but my driver) so I just made my way to homeware and the Sonia Kashuk and NYX counters. My sights were on the Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa (even though I'm in a nude phase doesn't mean I forget my bold roots) and the Xtrme Lip Cream in Candy Land. Swatched on my hands I thought it would be more of a gloss, but it's similar to the matte ones. I also got two of the Jumbo Eye Pencil, Milk and Black Bean. I already got a Jumbo Eye Pencil in another colour and liked it. And because I knew we wouldn't have time to go back to WM, I picked up Essie's Hide & Go Chic. You can see it in action on my last Manicure Monday post.
Winners, my love! I had to go twice in order to check all I wanted to. First time was beauty and deco. Second time fashion and accessories. Winners can be really good when it's time to makeup sets, and as you can see I came home with two of them. OPI Take Ten came out last Fall, and contains 10 mini of nude and vampy shades. Because i'm in a nude phase, I was drawn to it by the first row, but upon inspection the second row has some good shades too. I do have to say I'm not a big fan of reds in general, but Cajun Shrimp looks gorgeous! It also has mega stars like You don't Know Jacques and Licoln Park After Dark.
Then I just couldn't pass the NARS Andy Warhol Kiss Larger than Life Lip Gloss Coffret! Look at the packaging! I has 5 shades, mainly nudes and pinks but also one silver glitter. Because Halloween is every year...
I know lots of people say the NARS lipgloss smell disgusting and I never had problems with that. But I have to say this one smells!
I also got the Alba Botanica Natural Hawaian Coktail Body Wash in Creamy Pina Colad as this smells just so nice! It truly is a good representation of what the name says! Also, becauseI'm running low on facial scrub I got the Natural Hawaian Facial Scrub from the same brand. They say natural on the packaging and from the quick look I got on the ingredients it doesn't seem so bad, but it's not 100% natural. but for the most part it's good.

Grey and Pink. EOTD. On first hearing, it might sound like a disaster. But it works quite well! It's a look I have been doing since a couple of weeks now, and always attract so many compliments. My friend Nancy even asked me to do the same on her (she has hazel eyes), and then when her friend Karine saw her, she also wanted it!
Also, the pink that I used is quite a bold pink. It's from the Personnelle eyeshadow pallette Aube. The obvious choice to tone it down would have been to pair it with a beige, or a paler pink. But when I first experimented this look, I was obsessed with grey eyeshadows.

To prime my lids, I used Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Audacious Asphalt. I then took a grey from one of my favourite palettes, NYX Winter in Moscow. Third I put the bold pink in the crease, doing a winshield swipiing motion. In the inner corner and on the brow bone, a light buttercup from MAC's Caramel Sundae palette from the Archie's Girls did the trick.
Black eyeliner and mascara complements this look very well.
As I don't like to use too much pink on my face at the same time, I keep it neutral with a peachy nude lipgloss.
Do you like pink eyeshadows? With what colour would you pair it?
A few weeks ago, I showed you a napkin holder that I meant to use as a makeup palettes holder. Ariane from Style Sud-Est was asking to see how this would turn out, so here it is, along with my favourite palettes of the moment!
Granted, this not holds a lot as my palettes are on the bulky side. I think if I had the sleek MAC palettes it could hold more, but I don't have enough MAC product to justify a palette!
Right now I am loving the original UD Naked palette. Pretty much everyone loves it, as it has a good range of basic colours, ranging from beiges, browns, pinks to darker ones. The only thing I'm not fond of is the velvet packaging, that attracts dust.
Last year I talked about the PixGlow Fairy Face Palette*. from Pixi's Tinkerbell collection. Love the pinks and browns, and it suits my brunette look.
I found the NYX winter in Moscow palette in TK Maxx, got it for super cheap as it had been opened and is missing a blusher. This one is on the darker side, perfect for smokey looks.
And here are a few snaps of the snowstorm we are now having in Eastern Quebec!
